USING MUSIC FOR SCHOOL READINESS
CHILDREN’S DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS

Not all children learn and engage in the same way. We know that music is an essential tool to use in the first 5 years of a child’s life. However, using music in an education setting can be outside many peoples’ comfort zone. It is common for Educators and Parents to feel they do not have the musical skill or ability to use music with the children that they care for.

Many educators express a desire to build skills and confidence to incorporate music in everyday experiences or to support children who learn and engage differently. Yet there are limited programs or services that offer individualised support to ensure that the strategies are directly relevant and easy to implement.

Children with diverse learning needs or challenging behaviours benefit from creative educational and therapeutic strategies. There are often barriers, however, to accessing educational music therapy programs or developing personalised knowledge and skills.

USING MUSIC SUPPORTS SCHOOL READINESS
Using Music is proud to support and build the capacity of Educators and Parents, and is a registered provider on the School Readiness Funding Menu for 2024. The funding was introduced to reduce educational disadvantage for children in their early learning, and enables kindergarten services to spend their allocated funding amounts in ways that best support children’s learning and development.

Individualised onsite or online mentoring and support ensures that the music–based approaches are directly relevant to your kindergarten service. The programs support you to develop knowledge, skills, resources and confidence to integrate music into your early childhood program or home.

There are three Using Music Programs to choose from: Mentoring, Workshops, or Webinars. All programs support Educators and kindergarten communities to directly support children and build skills and knowledge in using music to enhance communication development, social and emotional wellbeing, and access and inclusion.
